ART SPACE

A Therapeutic Art Studio

What is Art Space?

Art Space is a community-based therapeutic art center dedicated to supporting children as they navigate developmental milestones, foster meaningful peer connections, and address personal challenges through the transformative power of art-making. Located on the NCSA campus, Art Space welcomes all children in the community, providing a safe and nurturing environment for creative expression. Now in our third year of operation, we proudly serve approximately 60 families each week through our engaging art-making after school groups. Join us to explore creativity, build connections, and find support in a collaborative artistic atmosphere.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy uses the creative process of traditional and non-traditional art making techniques, as well as the resulting artwork as part of the therapeutic and healing process; facilitating personal development, and assisting in the alleviation, remediation, and prevention of distress.

The Art Therapy process is facilitated and/or supervised by a Registered Art Therapist who is grounded in the knowledge of human development, psychological theories and counseling techniques.

Who is Art Therapy for?

Art therapy is for everyone, offering a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can delve into their emotions and life experiences through creativity. This therapeutic approach does not demand prior artistic skills; rather, it invites participants to embrace their curiosity and explore various art materials at their own pace. Through the process of creating, individuals can gain insights, foster self-expression, and promote healing, making art therapy a valuable resource for personal growth and emotional well-being.

Art is a universal language

With a curious mind and an open heart, individuals can delve into experiences that may be challenging to articulate verbally. Art serves as a gateway, stimulating neural pathways and fostering increased neuroplasticity, allowing for emotional expression and cognitive exploration. Both the act of creating and the experience of viewing art resonate deeply, reaching into the core of our humanity. This primal connection taps into emotions and thoughts that often remain unspoken, highlighting the transformative power of art as a medium for understanding and connection.

Working in an art studio

We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment in the studio. Our studio model promotes social awareness and fosters respect for each other's work and creative processes. Here, every individual is recognized as an artist, contributing to a collaborative atmosphere that values diversity and encourages personal growth. Together, we cultivate a space where creativity thrives and mutual support is paramount, allowing us to explore our artistic potential in a respectful and inclusive setting.

We all need more art!
